End of Year Ball

It’s time for you all to sign up for the final, and what will inevitably be, the best event of the academic year – the NULS Law Ball which will take place this year just after the May exams on the 4th June 2009. Curb your excitement, folks! There are plenty of spaces left but only a few weeks to get your tickets…

The venue booked is The Caves and, as befits such a cool venue, the dress code will be formal. This gives all you fit lads with footballers’ legs the chance to don your kilts and for all of you with varicose veins, you get the chance to open a new pair of support stockings to put on under your suit. Girls should wear evening dress and everyone, (yes, everyone), should wear a mask (even your significant others/plus ones/escorts). We’re thinking this could be blessed relief for some folk, (…and there’s a fab prize for the best mask as well as a raffle).
The evening kicks off at 7pm with a drinks reception followed by a three-course dinner, accompanied by wine, (obviously), at eight. A cash bar will also be available. The menu can be found here (please note a vegetarian option will be available). Any specific dietary requirements should be communicated at time of purchase of ticket(s).

Dinner will be followed by a ceilidh/disco and dancing can be had until 2am when the venue closes.
The final ticket prices for members (subsidised) is £50 and for non-members is £55. Tickets can be purchased by visiting us at our various promotional tables or from Committee members – email us at info@edinburgh-napier-lawsociety.org if you have any difficulty locating or contacting Committee members.
So start looking forward to the end of another arduous, academic session or even to graduating and get your tickets!!

Manchester Law Students Demonstrate for More Lectures

Having had their lecture hours cut from 30 to 20, law students at Manchester Uni staged a protest demanding more lectures. To check out the story click on the link below.

What do you think, do we have enough lectures at Napier? Do you think we get good value for money? Go to the forum page and share your views.

Executive Committee Elections

As I’m sure you’re all aware from being up-to-date with the ever-shifting constitution of the student law society, elections are due to take place before Easter for the five posts on the Executive Committee which require filling for the 2009/10 academic year.

The five posts are President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Events & Promotions and the election process can be found in Article 8 of the aforementioned constitution, which itself can be found on the society website: http://edinburgh-napier-lawsociety.org/constitution/

To be eligible for election you must be both a matriculated student and a paid-up member of the society. The deadline for nominations, for any post, is 24th April – intention to nominate should be communicated to the Secretary by this date by emailing secretary@edinburgh-napier-lawsociety.org

All nominations must be in writing. The elections themselves will take place at the AGM which will take place before the end of the academic session, with the time and place to be confirmed nearer the time.

The law society was newly-formed this year and we are the second biggest society in the university– a lot of the groundwork involved in any new venture has consequently been covered, so we’re looking for folk who are committed and have the time to both develop and maintain the society. It has been a whole lot of fun but the work-shy should think carefully before running for election since it has been a lot of hard work.

Red Nose Day – Final Tally

The results are in and the total amount raised is….

£247!!

A big thank you to Nicholas Grier, James McDougall and Ken Dale-Risk who made a fantastic effort in dressing up to help us raise the cash! Pictures are now available on the gallery.

Also thank you to all the generous Napier students who dug deep into their coffee funds to give what they could.

New NULS Forum

Just when you thought the website couldn’t get any better, our webmaster has added a mechanism whereby forum discussions can take place on the website.

We think this may be a good place to share ideas, or ask questions, about coursework or indeed about anything.

It needs kicking off so anyone up for the challenge should log in and get tongues wagging!
